I wrestled with how to use these
ideas to make a visually interesting design for a long time. This
is my 'Virtual' needlepoint of Fornax.
This project started as an attempt to use three or more levels of
recursion with pentominoes in a visually interesting design. The
blocks that make up this picture are all pentomino shapes.
There are four different sizes from very small, to very large. I
began with a single set of blocks, enlarged it, then disolved many
of the pentomino blocks into a bunch of smaller pentomino blocks.
Many of the smaller blocks were disolved again into the many tiny
pentominoes that can just be seen in this image.
I have documented the development of my stitched version of this
piece in my article: Anatomy
of a Project - Fornax.
The image of the 'real' piece is in the Pentominoes
Gallery section.
See my articles about Pentomino puzzles
and Virtual needlepoint.
